I noticed an option called ‘Enable Battery Monitor’ in the General settings of the VictronConnect app for my inverter/charger, after connecting my Multiplus-II to my computer, using the MK3 USB interface device. Could you tell me what this feature is for and how it benefits my system?

The ‘Enable Battery Monitor’ setting in the VictronConnect app is an essential feature that activates the battery monitoring capabilities of your MultiPlus inverter/charger.

    Function:

    • When enabled, the inverter/charger will track the state of charge (SoC) of your battery bank.

    • The SoC is a measure of the remaining capacity of the battery, usually expressed as a percentage.

    • This monitoring is crucial for understanding how much energy is stored at any given time and for making informed decisions about energy usage and system management.

Benefits: Enabling the battery monitor opens up several functionalities within the system that rely on accurate SoC readings, such as:

    • Optimizing the charging process to ensure the battery is neither undercharged nor overcharged, which can extend battery life.

    • Making smart decisions about when to switch to battery power and when to charge the batteries, which can be particularly useful in systems that use solar panels or other renewable energy sources.

    • Enabling advanced features like the ‘State of Charge’ dependent relay, which can automatically start a generator or shut off non-critical loads to prevent the battery from deep discharging.

    • Providing data for other connected devices or systems that might use SoC for various control or reporting functions.

By monitoring the battery’s SoC, you can enhance the overall efficiency of your power system and ensure the longevity and health of your batteries. It’s a key feature for anyone looking to maintain an off-grid system, a backup power system, or any setup where battery usage is a critical component.
